Dublin Airport will be busy this bank holiday weekend with over 500,000 passengers expected to travel through its terminals.
Passenger numbers are expected to top 134,000 on Friday, with 129,000 travelling on Saturday. Sunday will be the busiest day of the weekend, with 136,000 passengers forecast to pass through the airport, before a further 128,000 passengers travel on Bank Holiday Monday.
The August Bank Holiday marks one of the final major getaway weekends before the end of the summer holiday season. Dublin Airport said there is strong demand for flights to and from destinations across Europe, North America and beyond.
Dublin Airport is advising passengers to prepare for a busy airport by arriving in good time for their flight and checking directly with their airline for the latest information regarding check-in and boarding times. Passengers are reminded that they no longer need to take liquids - which can now be in containers of up to 2 litres - or electronics out of their bags at security screening.
Dublin Airport spokesperson Graeme McQueen said: "The August Bank Holiday weekend is always one of the busiest of the year and we’re looking forward to welcoming more than half a million passengers through our terminals over the four day period. Our teams across the airport are ready to ensure passengers enjoy a smooth and efficient journey through the airport. As always, we'd recommend arriving at the airport two hours before a short-haul flight and three hours before a long-haul departure."
Mr McQueen added: "While the August Bank Holiday weekend is among the busiest travel periods of the year, Dublin Airport has been successfully welcoming more than 100,000 passengers every day throughout the summer. Indeed, on around 40 days this summer we have welcomed upwards of 120,000 passengers, with 95%+ of departing passengers getting through security screening in 20 minutes or less."
