A Kerry adventurer is set to take on a mighty challenge that will see him run every street in Dublin and raise awareness for homeless.
Sean Clifford has taken on marathon challenges, including running every mountain in Ireland, but now wants to venture onto Dublin's 4,400 street while sleeping rough throughout. It's all in aid of Focus Ireland and to highlight the invisible homelessness taking place every single day.
It will take between 20 and 30 consecutive days and nights, and will begin on Tuesday, August 4. The "4400 Streets & Nowhere To Go" challenge will also see a portion of funds given to two local Dublin grassroots organisations working on the frontline Liberty Soup Run and Dublin Homeless Awareness.
The most recent figures show 17,517 men, women and children living in emergency accommodation with more than 12,000 of those in Dublin. Sean will travel between 2,000 and 2,500km as part of the challenge to highlight the ongoing issues around homelessness.
Sean said: "I’ve run every mountain in Ireland and the length of the Wild Atlantic Way. I’ve pushed my body to limits I didn’t know existed. But this is different. For the next 20 to 30 nights I will sleep rough on Dublin’s streets — invisible, just like thousands of people are every single night. I’m not doing this to stay invisible. I’m doing it so they will never have to be invisible again. Every step, every cold night, every story I share will be for the people who have no choice — to raise the funds that help them get and keep a home, and to make sure the city finally sees them."
In 2024, Sean became the fastest person to run every mountain in Ireland, completing the challenge in a record 21 days. The feat required navigating the full range of Ireland's mountain terrain — from the peaks of Kerry and Connemara to the ranges of Donegal and the Mournes — in the worst summer on Irish record. In 2025, he set a new record for running the Wild Atlantic Way — Ireland's 2,700km coastal touring route from Donegal to Cork — completing the full distance faster than any person before him.
