Host Vogue Williams became visibly emotional while hearing one couple's story on Channel 4's Renovation Rescue.
The 40-year-old encountered a couple, Wendy and Garreth, who had already invested £60,000 into their project, which remained far from finished.
Seven months previously, they opted to construct a second storey above the garage, establishing an additional bedroom upstairs and a generous kitchen/diner downstairs.
Following an initial quote of £75,000, they handed over £60,000 to the builder and were left with a two-storey extension that proved to be structurally unsafe.
When a building inspector examined the work, numerous problems came to light, forcing them to delay their wedding in order to cover the costs of rectifying the issues.
Throughout the programme, Channel 4 audiences discovered that despite dipping into their wedding savings, they were left with £40,000 to finish the renovation.
Discussing the financial toll with Vogue, Wendy became tearful. She explained: "It's compounded by the fact that the financing for it was my grandma's inheritance money. Sadly, my grandma passed away.
"My dad knew what we were trying to do, and he bent over backwards to make sure that the money went from my grandma to me."
As Vogue acknowledged how challenging that must have been, she asked how Wendy's dad felt about the situation. She replied: "I think my dad, the hardest part was to see me feel so vulnerable."
Wendy became visibly overwhelmed and burst into tears as Vogue responded: "Oh, I'm so sorry."
She went on to explain that her father has always been sensible with finances, continuing to speak to Vogue while in tears.
Wendy added: "I've always been quite proud of myself for being good with money."
Witnessing her distress, Wendy was comforted with reassurances that the financial situation was not her fault.
Looking visibly moved herself, Vogue rose from her seat and embraced Wendy after watching her break down in tears.
Speaking directly to the camera outside, the Irish star said: "I can see that they're both under a lot of stress. Wendy has just had a baby, and you want to come home and be able to nest with your baby and be in that baby bubble; they just haven't been able to do that.
"Every time they come into their driveway, they just see that big eyesore that's unfinished and not ready for a family to live in. It must be really difficult."
Ultimately, the couple successfully managed to renovate their kitchen and dining area, spending £37,500 of their budget, and made considerable savings by tackling much of the work themselves and enlisting the help of family and friends.
