Independent bookshop of 50 years to close after national security raid

A 50-year-old independent bookshop has announced it will close when its lease ends, following a raid by Hong Kong national security police earlier this month.

Greenfield Book Store, located on Sai Yeung Choi Street in Mong Kok, took to social media during the early hours of Wednesday morning to announce its plans to close.

“The shop will close down after the end of the lease. Thank you, everyone, for your support over the past 50 years since the shop opened. Thank you and take care,” the bookshop said.

It did not specify when its current lease will end.

Greenfield was founded in 1976 and specialises in the sale of humanities titles. It was one of the two independent bookstores raided by national security police two weeks ago.

The other raided location was the Have a Nice Stay bookshop in Prince Edward.
