TEMPE, Ariz. – The attorney for Arizona Cardinals executive Ryan Gold, suspended indefinitely last week for violating the NFL’s gambling policy, told The Athletic on Sunday that the accusations against his client are false and that he plans to appeal the league’s decision.
Mike Caspino confirmed in a text message that Gold, the team’s director of college scouting, denies violating the league’s gambling policy and that he plans to clear Gold of wrongdoing.
In a statement released Friday, the NFL stated that an investigation concluded that Gold provided confidential information about the Cardinals’ 2026 NFL draft selections before they were publicly announced. The league also claimed that Gold participated in parlay bets on NFL and college games.
“The gambling policy, which is annually reviewed with all NFL personnel, strictly prohibits anyone in the NFL from participating in or facilitating any form of sports gambling, and from providing third parties non-public information,” the NFL said in the statement. “… Although there is no reason to believe the integrity of any NFL game was affected, the league takes any violation of the gambling policy with the utmost seriousness.”
Caspino told ESPN, which first reported plans of the appeal, that Gold’s wife was responsible for the gambling activity, making $10 bets with a group of high school friends on parlays, and that Gold had no involvement.

Gold is in his 13th year with the Cardinals and in his second as director of college scouting. He previously held the position of assistant director of college scouting. Gold’s bio on the Cardinals’ website was not active Sunday. Previously, it said Gold oversees the day-to-day operation and organization of the Cardinals’ college scouting department and that he is responsible for the evaluations of draft-eligible prospects, managing the college scouting staff and coordinating pre-draft events.
