It’s time for Mister Sinister to get his own Affiliation in Marvel: Crisis Protocol. Here are a few good mutants to toss in the mix.
I’ve been on a bit of an X-Men kick lately. Maybe it’s because of the Sentinel releases. Or maybe it’s because I’ve been watching X-Men ’97. Probably both. But I’ve also been thinking about the villains more and more in the game. Plus, there’s supposed to be an update around the corner. Anyhow, all that got me thinking about X-Men villains. That led me down the path to a particular character that I think is criminally underused in MCP: Mister Sinister.
He’s an iconic X-Men villain, and while he’s also a henchman of larger threats, he’s also a leader at times. Really, he’s more like a Lieutenant in that he’s got a boss over his head, but he can still command some troopers around. And I think that’s what’s missing.
So yeah, I’d love to see Sinister get a rework or even another version that gives him a leadership ability. Or maybe a Team Tactic Card. However that works, that still leaves another issue: Who’s he going to lead?!
Well folks, that’s the entire point of this one. So let’s hit some of the highlights of who Mister Sinister could lead onto the tabletop…probably from the back, and he plots and schemes.
The MaraudersFirst off, shout out to Scott Cohn. He’s got all his awesome Marvel Art on his art station, which is where I found the image above. Seriously, go over there and show this man some love!
Secondly, this is the art for Dark Past. It’s alluding to a story arc where Gambit led the Marauders down to the Morlocks hideout and, well, you can guess what happened. Anyhow, that was all set up by Mister Sinister. What you might also not know is who The Marauders are. Specifically, these characters:
And there are MORE of them. However, a lot of the former Marauders are already in the game. So again, I could see this being a really “easy” Affiliation to add, even without adding a bunch of new characters. Although, that’s kinda the point (adding the new characters).
The Nasty BoysThere’s a famous (infamous?) episode of X-Men ’92 where the Nasty Boys show up. I personally loved it because it’s just cheesy enough. It really felt like this other, mysterious team had all the right powers to counter the X-Men. But of course that wouldn’t last long. By the end of the episode, the X-Men had figured out counters to their counters and ended up winning the day. Still, I always think of them when Mister Sinister pops up.
Their roster includes:
And yes, those are actual names of actual characters in Marvel Comics. I mean, I feel like any team with guys named Hairbag and Ramrod needs to at least be in the conversation.
The HellionsThe Hellions are a more recent team. They had a run during the Krakoan era, and while it featured some familiar faces, it also had some crossovers from Sinister’s old teams (depending on the roster). This team includes:
Scalphunter Wild Child Empath Nanny Orphanmaker Psylocke HavokI think this one could be a fun Affiliation to dabble with for sure. Just sayin’ that Mister Sinister’s influence is real… Also, can we get Wild Child already?
Anyhow, I still think Sinister is an interesting villain, and he really does unlock some weird doorways to these other characters. There’s potential there; that’s all I’m saying.
What characters from Mister Sinister’s past would you like to see him team up with again?
