'Dodgy box' users might be in danger - 10 suspected providers receive legal warning
The Federation Against Copyright Theft (FACT) and Sky have delivered legal warnings to 10 suspected 'dodgy box' providers across Ireland in Carlow, Cork, Dublin, Kildare, Galway, Laois and Limerick.The operators are accused of using illegal Internet Protocol Television (IPTV) technology to sell subscriptions to members of the public, giving them unauthorised access to sport, radio, television, and films.FACT and Sky said the legal warnings were served to suspected resellers after their investigations identified the operators and their addresses.The "cease-and-desist" notices instructed the addressees to stop selling illegal IPTV subscriptions, commonly known as 'dodgy boxes', immediately or risk further action, including civil proceedings or referral to gardaí."Collectively, the services are believed to have supplied thousands of end-users and those accessing illegal services should be aware that their details may be identified and passed to authorities," FACT said in a statement.
