There may not be a more highly anticipated new fantasy RPG than The Elder Scrolls 6, but gamers have officially been pushed to the brink in terms of patience waiting for the game's release. Since Skyrim launched in 2011, fans have endured an unprecedented wait for The Elder Scrolls 6, and while Bethesda has repeatedly assured players that development is progressing full steam ahead following Starfield, the future of TES6 has become even more uncertain in recent weeks.
Sadly, Microsoft's recent restructuring of XBOX resulted in widespread layoffs across Bethesda and ZeniMax, with reports suggesting the cuts affected programmers, artists, designers, and QA staff working on key projects. Although XBOX has stated that no publicly announced first-party games have been cancelled, current and former Bethesda employees have warned the changes could impact morale and will almost certainly increase the risk of delays by placing additional pressure on developers.
As excitement for The Elder Scrolls 6 continues to build, many fans are now wondering how these sweeping changes may shape Tamriel's long-awaited return. However, there's some light in the darkness, as The Elder Scrolls: Valenwood is officially coming in November this year (via Magic Madhouse).
The Elder Scrolls: Valenwood is a major expansion to the beloved The Elder Scrolls: Betrayal of the Second Era, a cooperative tabletop adventure game from Chip Theory Games, developed in partnership with Bethesda Softworks and ZeniMax Online Studios. The Valenwood expansion takes players to the mysterious and mystical woods of Valenwood, "known for the sylvan Bosmer and the region's famous migratory trees," for a brand-new adventure connected to the base game.
While Valenwood officially launched back in 2025, it sold out quickly via Chip Theory Games' official website, but is getting a massive restock at select retailers such as Magic Madhouse on November 28, 2026, and is available for pre-order now for roughly £30. Included in the release are the following items:
10 heavy-weighted chips 6 mini-chips 3 square crux tokens 24 heat-printed dice 1 double sided neoprene clash tile 47 PVC standard cards 6 PVC skill line cards 3 PVC class cards 1 PVC overland map 1 spiral bound gazetteer book.Designed for one to four players, Betrayal of the Second Era transports players to Tamriel during the beloved Second Era, right around the time when The Elder Scrolls Online takes place, where a sinister conspiracy involving the Order of the Black Worm threatens to reshape the continent. Players take on the role of custom adventurers aligned with one of Tamriel's many guilds, embarking on a branching narrative campaign filled with exploration, combat, dungeon delving, and meaningful character progression.
While you will need the base set of Betrayal of the Second Era to play the Valenwood expansion, it comes highly recommended among The Elder Scrolls fans and tabletop gamers alike, and will be a great change of pace for any gamers looking for something new outside The Elder Scrolls Online or yet another playthrough of Skyrim.
