Court rejects most allegations against five major carmakers in 'dieselgate' case
The High Court has rejected most of the principal allegations levelled against five major carmakers which were on trial in the UK over so-called dieselgate, more than 10 years on from the Volkswagen emissions scandal.
The case centres on allegations that 20 sample vehicles made by Mercedes, Ford, Peugeot, Citroën (both owned by Stellantis), Renault and Nissan were fitted with devices that reduced emissions during laboratory testing but allowed them to emit significantly higher levels of harmful gases in real-world driving.
The case is the largest group litigation trial in the history of England and Wales, representing around 1.6 million UK vehicle owners.
