The 02Series was Studio Underd0g’s “difficult second album”. Introduced in 2023 after the success of the brand’s colourful chronographs, it took a different route, reinterpreting the classic field watch through the British brand’s typically playful lens. Inspired by a theoretical 1945 Ministry of Defence brief and the famous Dirty Dozen watches, the collection paired compact dimensions with an unusual multi-layer sapphire dial. Three years later, Studio Underd0g returns with the 02Series Gen2. And while the new Nightshade and Red L0lly colours immediately catch the eye, the most important changes are technical and ergonomic.
The stainless steel case remains compact, measuring 37.5mm in diameter and 46mm lug-to-lug, but the overall thickness has been reduced to 11.5mm, compared with 12mm for the original 02s. Without the domed sapphire crystal, the case measures just 9.4mm. This was achieved by reworking the dial and hand construction, allowing the crystal to sit closer to the display. Tighter assembly tolerances, made possible by Studio Underd0g’s in-house workshop, The D0ghouse, also contributed to the slimmer profile. The screw-down caseback still features the collection’s Jellyfish image, a reference to its 100m water resistance, now presented against a matte background.

On the dial, the minutes track has been moved slightly inwards to improve legibility beneath the domed crystal, while the handset has been completely retooled. The amount of printed text has also been reduced and rebalanced.
Two new dial colours join the returning Pink Lem0nade and Steffany Blue models. Nightshade uses a deep purple tone, and Red L0lly comes in cherry red. The colours of these dials are created by tinting the 1mm-thick sapphire layer suspended above the metallic dial base. A sunburst pattern is etched into the layer below, producing changing reflections through the coloured sapphire. The technique was first explored on Studio Underd0g’s Manhattan collaboration with Fears. Arabic luminous hour markers provide night-time legibility. With the arrival of new colours, the Full Mo0n and Midnight editions are discontinued.

Another important upgrade is found inside. The newer Sellita SW200-2 M Power+ has replaced the previous Sellita SW210-1, still a manually wound movement in keeping with the field-watch inspiration. Running at 28,800 vibrations/hour, it now delivers 63 hours of power reserve, an increase from the previous 42 hours. Hacking seconds are retained for precise time setting.
New leather straps by The Strap Tailor complete the Gen2 update, with each colour receiving its own combination. The Studio Underd0g 02Series Gen2 will be available immediately, from the brand and by appointment at The D0ghouse. Prices are GBP 875, EUR 900 or USD 1,200, with worldwide shipping included.
