Real Madrid announce signing of Denzel Dumfries on four-year contract

Real Madrid have announced the signing of defender Denzel Dumfries from Serie A champions Inter Milan.

The Netherlands international has penned a four-year contract at the LaLiga giants.

While a transfer fee has not yet been confirmed, it has been reported that Real have activated the 30-year-old’s release clause, which was just over £17m.

In a short written statement, the club said: “Real Madrid and Inter Milan have reached an agreement for the transfer of player Denzel Dumfries, who will be linked to our club for the next four seasons, until June 30, 2030.”

In what has been a summer of change at the club, Dumfries, who was part of the Dutch side eliminated from the World Cup by Morocco in the last-32, becomes Real’s fourth summer signing after the acquisitions of Marc Cucurella, Bernardo Silva and Ibrahima Konate.

He is set to provide competition to England international Trent Alexander-Arnold.

In a series of tributes to their departing player, Inter wrote: “Five years of passion, trophies, goals and assists, always wearing our shirt with pride and honour.

“Thank you for everything, Denzel: it was beautiful winning together. Inter will always be your home.”

During his five-years in Italy, Dumfries helped Inter win the Serie A title twice and the Coppa Italia on three occasions following his move from PSV in 2021.

The marauding full-back made 207 appearances for the Nerazzurri, scoring 27 goals and claiming 28 assists.
