The files appeared to show how Andrew kept in touch with the late convicted paedophile Jeffrey Epstein even after he was convicted of child sex offences. Andrew has always denied any wrongdoing and accusations against him. However, as the scandals continued to put pressure on the image of the Royal Family last year, Andrew agreed to stop using his official titles, including the Duke of York title.
This meant that his ex-wife Sarah, who he divorced in 1996, lost her Duchess of York title.
A source told HELLO! at the time that Sarah was comfortable with this, and supported Andrew’s decision.
The source also pointed out that the title didn’t make much difference to her, especially as she was often known as Sarah Ferguson - or Fergie - rather than a duchess in the professional world.
The source said: "She will always support her former husband's decisions and do anything for the King. For her, this will not make a big difference.”
Andrew’s statement last year announcing the decision read: "In discussion with The King, and my immediate and wider family, we have concluded the continued accusations about me distract from the work of His Majesty and the Royal Family.
“I have decided, as I always have, to put my duty to my family and country first.
"I stand by my decision five years ago to stand back from public life. With His Majesty's agreement, we feel I must now go a step further.
“I will therefore no longer use my title or the honours which have been conferred upon me. As I have said previously, I vigorously deny the accusations against me."
