Valenzuela boasts further international tournament experience after officiating in three Copa America, the Olympics as well as the FIFA Club World Cup twice.

But the 42-year-old is known for a ruthless disciplinary streak after doling out 1,908 yellow cards and 115 sendings-off in his 387 games as a professional referee.

Assisting Valenzuela will be compatriots Jose Urrego and Tulio Moreno while Paraguayan duo Juan Gabriel Benitez and Eduardo Cardozo will be on VAR duty.

Whoever wins the clash will face Brazil in the last-16 after Carlo Ancelotti's side snatched a late 2-1 victory over Japan at Houston Stadium on Monday evening.

New York New Jersey Stadium is set to host the next round tie on 5 July.
