Dacia drops Spring below £12,000 in UK

The price reduction follows a recent discount introduced by Chinese rival Leapmotor, which cut the price of its T03 city car to £12,995. Dacia’s latest move puts the entry-level Spring £1,005 below the T03 and almost £2,800 below the petrol-powered Dacia Sandero, which starts at £14,765.

The revised pricing applies to the Spring Expression, which is equipped with a 52 kW electric motor and offers a range of up to 140 miles (225 kilometres). Customers seeking higher performance can opt for the Spring Extreme, which now starts at £12,990. That version features a 75 kW motor and additional equipment.

Standard equipment includes cruise control, rear parking sensors, a digital driver display, air conditioning and driver assistance systems such as lane-keeping support and driver-attention monitoring. The Expression does not feature a central touchscreen, but smartphone connectivity is available through steering-wheel-mounted controls.

The Extreme trim adds a 10.1-inch touchscreen, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, alloy wheels, a reversing camera, electric rear windows and vehicle-to-load capability.

The current Spring received a technical update at the end of 2025. Changes included upgraded brakes, revised suspension tuning and a new 24.3 kWh LFP battery. Dacia states that the battery can be charged from 20 to 80 per cent in less than 30 minutes.

Both the Dacia Spring and Leapmotor T03 are built in China and do not qualify for the UK’s Electric Car Grant. The current discounts are thus funded directly by the manufacturers. Leapmotor’s offer is based on a manufacturer-backed ‘Leap Grant,’ which reduces the T03’s original list price by £3,000.

Dacia is expected to unveil the next-generation Spring later this year. The successor is due to arrive in 2027 and is expected to be built in Europe, potentially making it eligible for future UK EV incentives.
