Milly Alcock Breaks Silence On Supergirl Return In James Gunn's Man Of Tomorrow

2026 brought the Girl of Steel back to James Gunn's DC Universe following her introduction in 2025's Superman.

The DCU franchise officially resumed this summer with the Supergirl movie, starring Milly Alcock as Krypton's last daughter. However, while the blockbuster entry has received a mixed reception, DC Studios is already working on bringing the iconic superhero back sooner rather than later.

During her appearance on the Happy, Sad, Confused podcast, Alcock was finally asked about Kara's Man of Tomorrow return, as Gunn confirmed previously that the two Kryptonian cousins will be reunited next summer. The House of the Dragon veteran shared, "It's hard to code switch, and it's a different environment than the environment that we had on Supergirl. It's a different story, but all of the cast that I've gotten to work with have been super open and really lovely. Like Nicholas Hoult [and] David [Corenswet]. I love [Nicholas]."

The Australian actor continued, saying, "[Alan Tudyk], who plays Gary the robot, was also there. He's so funny." While not revealing too many details, Alcock also praised one of the newest DCU additions with "Lars [Eidinger, who plays Brainiac], we've had a few people. Yeah. I'm excited. I'm excited to keep doing it. I'm not going to tell you things."

The Man of Tomorrow story will see Lex Luthor and Superman having to put their differences aside and team up against the villainous Brainiac, who will finally be getting his big-screen treatment. Principal photography began in April 2026, as several DCU characters are confirmed to return for the 2027 continuation.

Despite its current box office struggle, Gunn's superhero franchise is not shying away from the beloved heroine. Audience members will get to see the DC legend in a third project, as revealed by Supergirl executive producer Lars P. Winther.

During a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Winther explained that "Man of Tomorrow, which is what we’re shooting now, [Alcock] is in that movie. Without giving too much away, this movie ends a particular way, and you see where she’s going to end up. She’s done her wild ways, and now she’s going to try to get back in with her cousin and be more on Earth again." Without specifying which future release she is part of, he added, "That’s where she is in Man of Tomorrow. It’s all more Earth-based. So we have Man of Tomorrow, and we already know what the next movie’s going to be after that, and she’s a big part of that.”

While time will tell how Supergirl finishes its theatrical run at the worldwide box office, it's clear that the DCU is remaining committed to utilizing her as a core character in this continuity. DC Studios co-CEO Peter Safran shared the following with The New York Times about the film's current results and how this doesn't change their long-term plans:

"While Supergirl didn’t meet our box office expectations, it’s just one component of a broader, long-term strategy at DC Studios that we remain confident in."

The DCU's Chapter 1: "Gods and Monsters" is not done yet for 2026, as HBO's Lanterns will be the next release, bringing the Emerald Knights to life on the small screen. On October 23, DC Studios will take audience members to Gotham City with the Clayface solo film, starring Tom Rhys Harries as DC's Matt Hagen in the R-rated feature.

Man of Tomorrow opens in theaters on July 9, 2027.
