Who is the referee for Egypt vs Iran?

The referee for tonight's Egypt and Iran match is Szymon Marciniak, an official from Poland.

Both sides still have a chance of getting through to the knockout stage. A victory for Iran would put both sides through regardless of Belgium's result against New Zealand, with Egypt progressing as one of the best eight third-placed sides in that scenario.

An Egypt win would put Iran out of the competition, while a draw would leave Iran either to hope Belgium fail to better their result, or that finishing with three points and a neutral goal difference would be enough in the third-place table.

The 45-year-old is one of the more experienced officials at this summer's World Cup having been active in the Ekstraklasa since 2009.

Since then, Marciniak has officiated at every Euros and World Cup except for Euro 2020, instead flying over to referee at the Arab Cup later that year.

In 2022, Marciniak earned the distinction of refereeing the World Cup final as Argentina triumphed over France. A year later, he was also put in charge of both the Champions League final and the Club World Cup final.

Running the line will be two of his countrymen, Tomasz Listkiewicz and Adam Kupsik.
