This video of a hot pot restaurant in Taiwan shows a video of a fan playing on a TV while people eat. The digital fan rotates back and forth in a way that is somehow convincing, even knowing it's just a video. The restaurant may not have a real fan to keep people cool in the heat, but at least it can give them the visual illusion that it does.
I've seen videos of a cozy fireplace before, but that's always felt like more of a comforting, aesthetic visual than a placebo for feeling warm. The fan video feels like the summer version of this, but is way more comedic because a rotating fan isn't something people typically think of as a pretty sight to see. Whoever owns this restaurant has a great sense of humor, and I wish I could eat there.
I'm going to try looking at a video of a fan next time I'm overheated with no AC. Either the placebo effect will work, or I'll feel even worse while longing for a real fan. Either way, it sounds like a fun experiment to try while suffering in the 105 degree weather I'm facing this summer.
