JPMorgan Chase has terminated a senior executive seen on video taking a city trash can during the New York Knicks' championship parade, TMZ reported.
The bank told the New York Post it fired Angie Báez after reviewing footage from the June parade. Video posted to X showed Báez, dressed in Knicks gear, dumping the contents of a blue-and-orange trash can onto a Manhattan sidewalk and walking off with the bin. The Knicks beat the San Antonio Spurs 4-1 for the franchise's first title in 53 years. According to her LinkedIn page, Báez was an executive director of community and industry engagement at the bank.
Another video shows the woman taking it home on a subway car … grinning wide while proudly displaying the loot.
The NYPD said it was aware of the video but had no complaint reports on file. The parade drew thousands and several other viral moments, including a fan who twerked during a street fight. Workplace-conduct dismissals tied to off-hours viral footage have grown more common as employers monitor social media; surveys by the Society for Human Resource Management have found a majority of organizations screen candidates' and employees' online activity.
Amusing thefts involving public figures are sadly rare. My favorite is that of Richard Madeley, the British daytime TV host, arrested in 1994 for walking out of a Manchester Tesco without paying for groceries. He was acquitted after telling the court he simply forgot to pay, a courtesy I'm sure is afforded to everyone, not just celebrities.
