StubHub UK Fined £900,000 Over Hidden Ticket Fees

The UK's Competition and Markets Authority has also ordered the company to refund more than 50,000 customers

StubHub UK has been issued with a fine totalling £900,000 after breaking UK laws and failing to display the full cost of tickets upfront.

As the BBC reports, the UK’s Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) found that between April and December 2025, some customers purchasing tickets for concerts and other events were only shown service and delivery fees at the final checkout stage. UK consumer law was changed last year to force all ticket proprietors to display the total cost of tickets at the immediate purchase stage.

In addition to the fine, StubHub UK has been ordered to refund the more than 50,000 customers effected by the company’s malpractice. The refunds, averaging around £10 per transaction, will be made automatically.

StubHub International described the matter as an “isolated platform error” and said it had taken steps to correct the issue so that it doesn’t happen again. The company received a 40% reduction to its fine after admitting to the CMA that it broke the law.

Commenting on the penalty and the CMA’s ongoing investigation into other companies, Emma Cochrane, executive director of consumer protection at the regulator, said: “Hitting customers with hidden fees is illegal. It’s not fair to draw people in with what looks like a good deal, only for them to find the real price is higher when they get to the checkout due to extra charges that can’t be avoided.”
