Trump says Apple and Intel will make chips in the US

Following reports that Apple and Intel were exploring a potential partnership in domestic chip production, US President Donald Trump has confirmed that the two companies have agreed to move forward with the initiative.

In a social media post, Trump stated that “Apple has agreed to work with Intel to design and build its chips in America.” The announcement aligns with the administration’s long-standing efforts to revive US semiconductor manufacturing, reduce reliance on overseas supply chains, and create high-skilled jobs within the country.

The move comes amid growing concerns over geopolitical tensions and the concentration of advanced chip production in Asia. Bringing more chip manufacturing back to the US has become a strategic priority for both policymakers and technology companies seeking greater supply chain resilience.

While official details of the partnership have yet to be disclosed, analyst Ming-Chi Kuo believes Intel could begin manufacturing Apple’s entry-level M-series chips as early as the second quarter of 2027. Apple may also be exploring additional manufacturing options within the US. According to Bloomberg, the company is in discussions with Samsung about producing chips at Samsung’s Texas facility. The move could help Apple diversify its supply chain and reduce its dependence on TSMC, currently its primary chip manufacturing partner.

If these partnerships are realised, it would represent one of the most significant efforts yet to localise advanced semiconductor production in the US, while giving Apple greater flexibility in how it sources and manufactures its chips.
