Koenigsegg Sadair’s Spear Is Lego's Most Ambitious Technic Set Yet

Lego just revealed the sixth and largest Technic set in the Ultimate Car Concept Series: the Lego Technic Koenigsegg Sadair's Spear. The 1:8-scale set contains 4104 pieces and will cost $449.99 when it goes on sale this July.Lego also built a full-size Sadair's Spear that was driven at the Goodwood Hill by Koenigsegg test driver Markus Lundh, who set a speed record for a Technic car.Lego brought us to Gripen Atelier, Koenigsegg's headquarters and manufacturing facility in Ängelholm, Sweden, for a big surprise. The surprise? The Lego Technic Koenigsegg Sadair's Spear. This new 4104-piece set is now the largest Lego Technic car by pieces, dethroning the 3893-piece McLaren P1 that we put together for a video back in 2024. The Sadair's Spear will retail at $449.99 in the United States, the same as the last few 1:8-scale supercar sets, and it'll be released this July. Michael Aaron|Car and DriverThe new Lego Koenigsegg comes with some impressive functional features: a nine-speed "Lightspeed" transmission that's flywheel-free, a complex Triplex suspension, a plastic V-8 piston engine, and a removable roof. Michael Aaron|Car and DriverLike the real Koenigsegg, this Technic set also comes with Ghost Mode. Open the rear clamshell, and the hood opens, the doors pop out, and the side mirrors fold in. Another neat trick is that you can open each door by pressing a small button near the rear wheel arches.Lego Lego also had to create 19 new pieces for this complex build. Typically, Technic sets take a year to develop, but this one took a year and a half due to the complexity of the new elements that were involved. Kasper René Hansen, senior model designer at the Lego Group, showed us a handful of different prototype builds, and it was very interesting to see how so many elements changed from the first iteration and how they overcame certain challenges.Michael Aaron|Car and DriverMichael Aaron|Car and DriverIn addition to the Technic version, Lego went ahead and created a 1:1-scale build of the Sadair's Spear, just like it did with the Bugatti Chiron, Lamborghini Sian, and McLaren P1. The company even went on to set a speed record as the fastest drivable brick-based car ever created by the Lego Group, hitting an impressive 111 km/h (69 mph) running the Goodwood Hill in reverse. This full-size drivable Lego Sadair's Spear is made up of 327,906 pieces.LegoThis is not Koenigsegg's first foray into the Lego scene. In August 2024, Lego launched the 801-piece Koenigsegg Jesko Absolut, which was available in grey and white. This marked the first time Lego ever released two color variants of the same Technic set simultaneously. Since then, the two parties have been working together on the Sadair's Spear project. My Lego addiction began when I was a young child, fueling my interest in both building things and my love of cars. Not long after my first real paycheck in 2017, I was finally able to afford the Lego Technic Porsche 911 GT3 RS that had been released the year before. Since then, many more sets have been purchased and built. I've enjoyed watching the evolution of Lego as a whole, but my passion lies with these intricate Technic sets. I can’t wait to get my hands on the new desktop-sized Koenigsegg Sadair's Spear and add it to my ever-growing collection this summer. View full post on Instagram➡️ Skip the lot.
