London’s ‘ultimate rooftop playground’ has games, a cinema, and DJs – and it’s free entry

The rooftop playground is situated just across from Stratford station (Picture: roofeast) After a depressing week of grey skies and rain, Londoners will be looking forward to making the most of the sunny weekend ahead of us. A rooftop bar is the obvious choice – and there’s one venue you should head straight to. Located on the top floor of a multi-storey car park in Stratford, you’ll find Roof East, a sprawling, colourful playground stocked with everything you could possibly need to spend a day (and night) enjoying the warm weather. Packed with games, an open-air cinema, a variety of street food vendors, free dj sets and plenty of deck chairs to relax in, it’s the perfect setting to unwind, gossip with your friends, and indulge in a summer spritz or two. And, most importantly, entry is free. The site is mainly open-air, although they do have a some shelter available in case it rains (Picture: roofeast) What is there to do at Roof East? Nowadays, a bar and a band just won’t cut it – Londoners expect a lot from businesses to keep their attention. So, that must be why Roof East decided to create a mini Center Parcs smack bang in the middle of Stratford. Starting with games, there’s a lot for guests to choose from – four of which require zero booking ahead of time and are entirely free. You’ve got Jumbo Topple Blocks, Cornhole, Ping Pong, and Beat The Bar. Fun fact: if you decide to tackle ‘Beat The Bar’ and manage to beat the world record of 1 hour, 20 minutes and 41 seconds you’ll win free tickets to any of Roof East’s games for life. And the activities don’t end there, there are also four ‘premium’ games which do require booking. Latest London news To get the latest news from the capital, visit Metro's London news hub. These include: Crazy Golf (£10 per adult player), Archery (from £25), Glitter Bowls (from £24), and the batting cage (from £30). Anyone want to recreate the baseball scene from ‘High School Musical 2′? If games aren’t your thing, Roof East also hosts a summer open air cinema season. Showing films like Notting Hill, A Star Is Born, Hoppers, Jurassic Park, and Scott Pilgrim vs The World, there’s a little something for everyone. Partnering with the Rooftop Film Club, you’ll find a wireless headphone at every seat, rows of single lounge chairs and two-person seats, each with a clear line to the screen, and the nearest bar just a few steps away. The roof also features standout views of the ArcelorMittal Orbit, Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park and the high rise skyline of Canary Wharf. Standard tickets range from £17 to £19. But if you happen to be in the market to take a special someone to an 8pm showing of ‘Pride and Prejudice’, you can purchase a ‘Love Seat’ ticket for £23. This double-wide loveseat comes with prime views, full cushions, a side table and popcorn. The open air cinema season kicked off just a few weeks ago (Picture: roofeast) No rooftop venue is complete without a good selection of street food on the menu. At Roof East there are three main vendors up for grabs: fried chicken at Chick ‘n’ Sours, burgers and Mac and Cheese bites at Cheeky Burger, and Shawarma and Falafel at Piddaji. There’s also, of course, a full bar – serving everything from pints to Pimm’s. Fancy a chicken burger anyone? (Picture: roofeast) Having just reopened for the 2026 summer season, Londoners have been keen to check out the space – sharing their thoughts on socials. TikTok creator @sineadtravels visited the site just a few weeks ago and was highly impressed, calling it ‘London’s ultimate rooftop playground.’ Another user @monettjanelle shared that it was ‘the perfect chill spot this summer,’ while @sheraipinx applauded the ‘pretty’ and ‘colourful vibes.’ However, there were a number of individuals who urged anyone interested in visiting to book any games they want to do far in advance, as slots fill up extremely quickly.
