Burnham leads in the Makerfield polls with Reform close behind
In just over three week’s time voters will go to the polls in the Makerfield by-election.
It’ll be a decisive one. If Andy Burnham wins, a Labour leadership contest is almost certainly bound to follow.
The party is slightly ahead of its main challenger, Reform UK, according to a poll of voting intentions in the constituency out today.
Its leader Nigel Farage is still facing questions over an unpaid debt arising from a county court judgement uncovered by this programme.
Candidates declared in Makerfield so far:
Andy Burnham for Labour, Robert Kenyon for Reform UK, Jake Austin the Liberal Democrats, Alan Howlin Laud Hope for The Official Monster Raving Loony Party, Rebecca Shephard for Restore Britain, Peter Ward for Rejoin EU and Michael Winstanley for the Conservative Party.
The Green Party is expected to declare its new candidate on Tuesday.
