Support academic institutions under attack

Wars dismantle the institutions that sustain knowledge. Recent hostilities in the Middle East have damaged Iranian universities, laboratories, schools and cultural and medical centres (Nature 653, 338–339; 2026). Attacks on education are rising worldwide, from Gaza and Iran to Sudan, Ukraine and Myanmar. The authors declare no competing interests.
