‘Big Mistakes’ Renewed for Season 2 at Netflix With New Partnership With Dan Levy Announced

Picture Credit: Netflix Schitt’s Creek co-creator Dan Levy’s new Netflix series Big Mistakes ends with twists and cliffhangers aplenty, leaving the door wide open for more seasons. What’s the current status of Big Mistakes Season 2? Here is everything we know. From Dan Levy and co-creator Rachel Sennott (I Love L.A), Big Mistakes follows two completely incapable siblings — community pastor Nicky (Levy) and school teacher Morgan (Taylor Ortega) — who find themselves blackmailed into the world of organized crime after stealing a necklace from a local store. Out of their depths but forced to take on dangerous tasks, the duo squabble their way through the newfound duties bestowed on them by the ruthless Italian mob. In our review, we rated Big Mistakes a respectable 3.5/5. Season 1 feels like things are just getting started; there’s a cliffhanger ending that leaves fans desperate for more. In short, Morgan’s mother-in-law-to-be, Annette (Elizabeth Perkins), is revealed to be the Italian mob boss mastermind behind the cartel operation. Despite Morgan’s reservations on marrying her son, Max (Jack Innanen), she’s very much forced into it. In fact, the only reason both Morgan and Nicky were kept alive during the slaughter in Florida was that Morgan is betrothed to Max, and Annette didn’t want to disappoint her son. Big Mistakes Season 2 Renewal Status Official Status: Officially Renewed The cartel isn’t done with Nicky and Morgan just yet! Netflix has officially renewed Big Mistakes for a second season. Alongside the renewal, Netflix announced that Dan Levy has extended his creative partnership with the streamer under a new series first-look deal. These came as part of Netflix’s Upfront announcements for 2026. “Very grateful and beyond excited to continue the Big Mistakes adventure and my creative collaboration with Netflix,” said creator, showrunner, and star Dan Levy in a press release. “Season 2 is already in the works and it’s going to be WILD. I can’t wait to get it out there to everyone as soon as humanly possible.” Tracey Pakosta, Netflix Vice President of Comedy Series, US, added: “We are thrilled to continue our partnership with Dan and bring more of his wonderfully funny and compelling stories to life. Big Mistakes is the most recent example of Dan’s singular voice and vision connecting with audiences around the world. We can’t wait to see what he has in store for season two.” The press release also confirmed that production for Season 2 will return to New Jersey, with the massive ensemble cast—including Levy, Taylor Ortega, Laurie Metcalf, Abby Quinn, Boran Kuzum, Jack Innanen, Elizabeth Perkins, Mark Ivanir, Ilia Volok, Jacob Gutierrez, and Joe Barbara—all slated to return. For the opening four days on Netflix, viewership was pretty low. In fact, compared to most cancellations and other shows within the same genre, the show opening with just 2.7M views and 12.2M viewing hours globally was likely falling short of renewal territory, particularly for a show of this budget. That was enough to rank it eighth in the weekly top 10 charts for the week of April 6th through April 12th, 2026. Courtesy of Netflix © 2026 The ending of Big Mistakes certainly sets up season 2. There’s no doubt an awkward wedding on the horizon, but will Morgan follow through with her marriage to Max? Will Nicky actually leave his post as a community pastor, like he said he would? How will Annette’s reveal as the boss of the mob operation affect how involved Morgan and Nicky get in the cartel business? Looking ahead to Season 2, Levy says the relationship between Max and his mob-boss mother will be an integral part of upcoming story. “She [Annette] needs to keep him happy,” Levy teased to Variety. “Morgan and their dynamic, their relationship, is a great way of keeping her son happy. She can’t mess that up. And also — Nicky and Morgan know too much now. So even if they wanted to leave, they have a lot to answer for.” If one thing is for sure, Levy is highly intent on delivering more seasons of Big Mistakes. Season 1 saw both Morgan and Nicky unwittingly take on cartel tasks; Season 2 pits them even deeper into the illegal business. “A Season 2 would just be: There’s no way out now,” he teased. In addition, Levy told TVInsider that he’s got a lot figured out about where he wants the series to go. “I know exactly what I want to see in the second season of the show,” he said. “A lot of the show is written in my head at this point. All I know is that if we are given the opportunity to tell a second season, it’s going to be bigger and better, and I can’t wait to get back to the writer’s room because we have a big old story to tell.” Big Mistakes Season 1 is now streaming on Netflix
