Mother and newborn baby found dead in Tipperary died of natural causes, autopsy finds
An autopsy has determined that a mother, who was found dead along with her newborn baby last Friday, died of natural causes. It is understood the woman’s husband made the tragic discovery on arriving home, to their house in Carrick-on-Suir, Co Tipperary, at around lunchtime.Gardaí are continuing their inquiries and will prepare a file for the coroner to assist with the inquests.Garda HQ confirmed that a post-mortem has been completed on the mother and that it had concluded the cause of death was “natural causes”.Gardaí have stressed that this is a personal tragedy for the family. It is not known what the medical cause is that led to the mother’s death, and the resulting death of her newborn. It is understood that the father survives with the couple’s two other children. The woman, in her 30s and believed to be Polish, was settled in Ireland a long time and immediate family here have all been contacted by gardaí.The awful discovery was made by the husband at around 1pm last Friday. Emergency services were contacted, but the woman, and her baby, were pronounced dead at the scene. The family home, in the Greenhill Village part of the town, was sealed off to allow for technical investigations. While gardaí suspected it was a medical tragedy they had to wait for the results of the post mortem to confirm cause of death and determine the course of their investigation.Gardaí will now prepare a file for the coroner, who will hold an inquest into the case, as normal in such situations.
