The New 'Odyssey' Trailer is Astonishing
We have an absolutely humungous new trailer for the Odyssey from Christopher Nolan, which gives us a glimpse of some of the epic shots he captured with IMAX cameras. My jaw was on the floor while I watched all this new footage, and you really got to see the breadth of the story and cast. The Odyssey teases a film that blends the grit of ancient warfare with the psychological depth Nolan is known for, all captured on large-format film.Let's dive in.
The New Odyssey Trailer
A New Vision of OdysseusNolan’s adaptation stars Matt Damon as a weathered, bearded Odysseus. And when we meet him, he'd been begging to go home. The footage emphasizes the psychological toll of the ten-year Trojan War, opening with Odysseus stranded on an island, and confessing to the nymph Calypso (Charlize Theron) that he's having trouble remembering his old life of a wife and a son, and the war. The trailer also provides the first look at the film's villain, Robert Pattinson as Antinous, the arrogant lead suitor who has taken over Odysseus’ home in Ithaca. He's one of the suitors set to try to marry Penelope (Anne Hathaway) if she will declare her husband dead and choose a new king.Like I said at the top, this whole thing was shot entirely on IMAX film cameras; the trailer reveals some set pieces like the cyclops, a whirlpool, men rowing boats, a fight with the sutors, the bow that Penelope asks for sutors to shoot an arrow through 12 axes with, and much, much more. At one point, we're just getting rapid-fire scenes that I have to go back and gawk at when I have the time. I wish I had tickets for opening night, but IMAX is sold out.
