228 anglers from Northern Ireland, Ireland and Germany descend on Fermanagh
The shores of Fermanagh are set to welcome anglers from near and far as the 49th Fermanagh Fishing Classic prepares to get underway.Entries for this year’s event have now officially closed, with 228 participants registered. Widely regarded as one of the leading events in the match coarse fishing calendar, the Classic continues to attract competitors from across Northern Ireland, the Republic of Ireland, Great Britain, and Germany.AdvertisementThe festival is delivered by Fermanagh and Omagh District Council in partnership with DAERA Inland Fisheries, angling representative Tony Green, and Erne Anglers. It also receives support from tackle brand Tackle Guru, which has helped promote the event across digital and social media platforms.The competition is further supported locally by Enniskillen BID, which has helped coordinate an evening entertainment programme aimed at bringing additional activity into Enniskillen town centre during the festival period.Throughout the week from Monday to Thursday, entertainment and competitor offers will be available across four venues in the town - Pat’s Bar, Charlie’s Bar, Crowe’s Nest and TJ Ryan’s - before the festival concludes with a closing event at the Westville Hotel on Friday, May 1.AdvertisementChair of Fermanagh and Omagh District Council, Councillor Barry McElduff, said the event continues to be one of the district’s most established festivals.He said the Council was pleased to welcome anglers from across Ireland and further afield, adding that the competition consistently showcased the district’s waterways, landscapes and hospitality.Councillor McElduff said the event also provided an important boost to the local economy, bringing visitors into towns and villages across the district, and thanked all competitors for their continued support.The Fishing Classic, now in its 49th year, is considered one of the region’s flagship angling events and remains a key date in the local sporting calendar.
