Ireland weather: Temperatures to hit 20C as country 'forecast to be one of the driest spots in Europe'

After a wet start to the year, Ireland is set enjoy a prolonged spell of sunny and settled weather, with the country "forecast to be one of the driest spots in Europe" over the next 10 days. While recent months haven't witnessed the near endless torrential downpours we were subjected to in the early parts of 2026, Ireland has endured by spells of heavy rainfall and powerful gusts of winds over the past few weeks. However, we now look set to finally escape the rain for the next two weeks as band of high pressure will bring dry and sunny conditions for the foreseeable.Irish weather expert Alan O'Reilly, who mans the popular @CarlowWeather account on X, has said we can look forward to a prolonged settled spell over the coming days as high pressure builds, with Ireland set to be the envy of Europe, with little to no rain forecast to fall here over the next 10 days.In a message shared with his 300,000 followers, O'Reilly said that "Ireland forecast to be one of the driest spots in Europe over the next 10 days".O'Reilly has previously said that while temperatures will remain around average for this time of year, we will enjoy a long break from the rain, with plenty of sunny spells on the way."The good news, things are going to improve for the weekend and for next week," he told his followers."Now, the position of that high pressure does mean that we won't get very warm weather, but we will have some good sunny spells, not clear blue skies every day, especially not at the weekend, but we will see some good sunny spells next week."But the good news is much better outlook for weather for the weekend and for next week. We could actually see a nice long, dry, settled spell now, but fingers crossed it doesn't change."Cathal Nolan of Ireland's Weather Channel has also said that we can look forward to dry and sunny conditions over the next 10 days, adding that "we've been waiting quite some time for a forecast like this".The leading meteorologist said that "it is going to be a rather pleasant 10, 14 days ahead of us in terms of the weather" as we "transition towards much more settled condition and at times milder weather as well, even potentially warmer weather as we get towards the second half of next week".Met Eireann have echoed the two weather expert's positive forecast and said high pressure will remain nearby for the coming week, bringing plenty of dry and bright, albeit breezy at times, weather. The national forecaster also said that temperatures will increase later in the week too, with temperatures "reaching the high teens, or even 20C" next weekend.Want to see more of the stories you love from the Irish Mirror?
