Urgent warning issued to shoppers as M&S recall popular €4.15 item which ‘may be unsafe to eat’

M&S has urgently recalled a batch of a popular food item amid concerns it could pose a serious health risk to some customers.The retailer is advising anyone who purchased the affected item to stop eating it immediately and return it to any store for a full refund - no receipt is required.The recall affects a specific batch of M&S Authentic Greek Vanilla Yoghurt 500g, priced at €4.15, with a use-by date of 12.05.26.The product has been pulled from shelves as it may contain gluten, which is not declared on the list of ingredients. This means those those with wheat allergies or gluten intolerance may unknowingly consume them and fall ill.While the yogurt is safe for most people, it could cause digestive issues or more serious reactions in those with coeliac disease, gluten intolerance or wheat allergies.The Food Safety Authority of Ireland has issued a "do not eat" alert for affected consumers, saying: "The above batch of M&S Authentic Greek Vanilla Yoghurt may contain gluten which is not declared in the list of ingredients."This may make the batch unsafe for consumers who are allergic to or intolerant of gluten and therefore, these consumers should not eat the implicated batch."The FSAI confirmed that the affected batches are being recalled.Point of sale notices will be displayed in all retail stores that are selling the yoghurt and on the Marks & Spencers’ website. The notices explain to customers why the product is being recalled and tell them what to do if they have bought it.Households are being encouraged to check fridges and freezers for any affected item that may be been purchased before the recall.Gluten is a naturally occurring protein found in wheat, barley, rye and related grains.
