Dublin Airport flight set for Washington DC forced into emergency return

A Dublin Airport flight set for Washington DC was forced into an emergency return after a mechanical issue. United Airlines flight UA711 departed Dublin Airport at 8:40am this morning. The 26-year-old Boeing 757-200 aircraft climbed to 36,000 feet and flew for two hours towards Dulles International Airport, before making a u-turn over the Atlantic and heading back to Ireland due to a mechanical problem. The flight had 46 customers and six crew members on board. The plane landed safely back in Dublin at 12:20pm this afternoon, and was subsequently cancelled. An United Airlines spokeswoman confirmed to Dublin Live that affected customers have been offered hotel accommodation and meal vouchers during their unexpected extended stay in the capital. She added: "United flight 711 safely returned to Dublin to address a mechanical issue and passengers deplaned normally at the gate. "The flight subsequently canceled and we’re working to get customers to their destination as soon as possible."
