Anitta Channels Her Inner Gothic Bride in a Bondage Minidress at the 2024 VMAs

Anitta has touched down at the MTV Video Music Awards, and she made an impact on the red carpet in a gothic all-white ensemble. Laced up in a strappy white minidress, the Brazilian pop star looked hauntingly beautiful as she arrived at the ceremony. Her custom Dolce & Gabbana outfit brought the drama with a translucent white hood, as well as streams of white fabric that trailed out from underneath her minidress. Bringing a softer side to the bondage-esque look, Anitta accessorized with sheer white thigh-high stockings and a pair of open-toed silver stilettos. Sculptural silver bracelets and a handful of silver rings added some sparkle, which continued upward with a diamond collar necklace and dangling diamond earrings. A shimmering silver and purple eye shadow elevated her look further, while a matching mauve lip gloss added more glamour. This time around, she performed a medley of “Savage Funk” and “Alegría,” and premiered her song “Paradise” with guest appearances by Fat Joe, DJ Khaled, and Tiago PZK. Still, all eyes were on Anitta as she stepped out in a white fishnet bodysuit with matching fingerless gloves. Michael LoccisanoShe layered a bedazzled white bra over the mesh top, taking care to show off a harness detail that was similarly embellished with silver rhinestones. While a cutout left her midriff exposed, she added more bling to her look with white joggers covered in sequins. And not to let any space for sparkle go to waste, she rounded out her look with a pair of platform sneakers decorated with silver rhinestones.Mike CoppolaThis year, Anitta was also nominated for three VMAs. Her hit “Mil Veces” earned her a nomination in the Best Latin genre, as well as a spot in Best Editing. And “Bellakeo,” her collaboration with Peso Pluma, earned her another nomination in the Best Latin category. She ended up taking home a Moon Person in Best Latin for her solo contribution, and accepted the award in a piece from Zuhair Murad's Fall/Winter 2024 couture collection: an embellished burgundy gown with cutouts lining each side. Mike CoppolaAnitta has already made VMAs history, having in 2022 become the first Brazilian artist to win a Video Music Award. That year, she took home a Moon Person after beating out her competitors in the Best Latin category with her viral song “Envolver.” “I really wasn’t expecting that—I think I’m going to cry,” said Anitta onstage while accepting her first-ever VMA. “I just want to say for whoever doesn’t know this, tonight in history is the first time ever that Brazil … it’s the first time ever that my country has won an award [like this]. I just want to say thank you to my family and to my fans.”Maya Ernest is an editor who covers everything from the latest fashion news to features that investigate personal style, social media trends, and thoughtful consumption.
