Maine Coons are one of the most popular large cat breeds in the world. They are friendly, intelligent, playful, and often much bigger than the average house cat. Because of their size, they need cat furniture that is stronger and roomier than standard options.
When choosing furniture for a Maine Coon, the first priority should be stability. These cats can be heavy, and they often jump with confidence. A small or narrow cat tree may wobble, which can make the cat feel insecure. A sturdy big cat tree with a wide base is much better suited for larger breeds.
Platform size is also very important. Maine Coons like to stretch out when they rest. Small round perches may not give them enough support. Look for wide platforms, large hammocks, or spacious condos that allow the cat to relax fully. If your cat has to squeeze into a resting area, it probably will not use it often.
The scratching posts should be tall and strong. Maine Coons have long bodies and need enough height to stretch completely. Scratching helps keep their claws healthy and gives them a way to release energy. Sisal-covered posts are usually a good choice because they are durable and attractive to cats.
Height can be beneficial, but safety matters more than simply choosing the tallest option. A tall cat tree should have a solid structure and balanced design. If it feels unstable, your cat may avoid climbing to the upper levels. For large cats, strength and balance are more important than decorative design alone.
A proper cat tree for large cats should also support multi-level movement. Large cats enjoy climbing, but the distance between platforms should be reasonable. If the jumps are too awkward, older or less active cats may struggle to use the tree comfortably.
Consider your cat’s personality as well. Some Maine Coons love high perches, while others prefer lower platforms and enclosed spaces. If your cat enjoys watching people, place the tree in a living area. If your cat prefers quiet resting spots, a bedroom or calm corner may be better.
Durability is worth paying attention to. Large cats can wear out weak materials quickly. Reinforced posts, quality covering, and strong hardware can make the furniture last longer.
The right cat tree gives a Maine Coon more than a place to sleep. It provides exercise, territory, scratching space, and comfort. For large breeds, choosing furniture designed for their size is one of the best ways to support their daily well-being.
