Theresa Rowley returning to Ireland for singles event one year after viral breakup
US comedian Theresa Rowley is returning to Ireland after her viral transatlantic romance with an Irishman ended in heartbreak.Last June, the Dallas based actress and comedian went viral after sharing her experience falling in love with an Irishman. After meeting him, and travelling to Ireland, she posted a video - gaining a million views on TikTok, but she soon received “the dreaded ‘hey girly’ message.Unfortunately, it transpired that the man had been cheating on Theresa with a number of other women. She then decided she would take to social media to share the details of her heartbreak with her followers, which racked up millions of views.“I work in social media, and I got a message around last year from a very handsome Irish man,” Theresa Rowley told the Irish Mirror.“We started chatting. I took a trip to Ireland with one of my best friends from here in Texas, and then this guy and I just started up a romantic relationship, which was not on my bingo card, for sure.“And I posted a video about it, just thinking it would reach a small audience, and it reached far and wide, so we ended up just being like in this very public love affair, which was so crazy.“Then the Washington Post, and Good Morning America, and Ireland AM, and all that jazz, and then just before Christmas I received a dreaded ‘hey girly’ message from another woman who was also in a love affair with him.“And then another one came after that, so it all came crashing down rather quickly, so I kind of felt somewhat of a duty to be honest with my online audience and say, ‘hey, here's what happened’, and not necessarily in a defamatory way, but in just… this is kind of what I'm going through, and this is what I will do with it emotionally and mentally. Now here we are coming back to Ireland!”Centra recently launched its My Centra loyalty app, giving consumers exclusive savings as a reward for staying loyal to Ireland’s favourite convenience shop.To mark the launch, Centra is flying the Dallas-based actress and comedian back to Ireland to see if the nation can restore her faith. In partnership with Your Friend, My Friend, Centra is hosting an in-person dating event, with Rowley as VIP guest of honour, to give the TikToker and Irish singles a chance to find loyalty.Asked what she was looking for in a man, Theresa said loyalty comes first, she is most excited to meet the “Irish girlies”.“It's a bit tongue in cheek at this point, but loyalty, above all else, is probably top of the list,” she said.“I always love to laugh, I like kind people. I'm not necessarily looking for a romantic connection, but never say never.“I think it's just going to be a fun night, and I'm also excited to meet the Irish girlies, because they've been so sweet and supportive to me throughout this whole sort of debacle“I think it's just going to be a fun night of community, and then maybe some people will find love, you never know!”As for advice, Theresa said it’s important to go into a relationship with a “strong sense of self-worth”.“I'm not sure about advice on dating an Irish man,” she said. “I only have one experience to go off of, but I think just dating in general, it's important to enter into the relationship with a very strong sense of self-worth, and not necessarily ask your partner to create that for you,“And I think just growing up and dating in Dallas, you don't even want to want to go there, but I just think I've made the mistake of kind of mirroring a partner a little too much in the past, and this situation has kind of pun intended, ‘re-centrad’ myself”.The single’s event in collaboration with Your Friend, My Friend will take place on June 11, at 7pm in Old Fashioned Sam’s in Dublin.Subscribe to our newsletter for the latest news from the Irish Mirror direct to your inbox: Sign up here.
