'Woke' BBC Chelsea Flower Show coverage leaves fans fuming: 'Condescending!'
The BBC's coverage of this year's RHS Chelsea Flower Show has been slammed by viewers. The broadcaster has dedicated a huge amount of airtime to reporting on the annual horticultural show running daily and nightly updates hosted by the likes of Gardeners' World star Monty Don and Arit Anderson. While on screen people gushed about the gardens, offscreen it fell flat with many at home. Taking to X one penned: "Believe it or not! There are some folk who Love being spoken to in a highly condescending manner. If that's you! - then you'll want to be watching the #RHS #ChelseaFlowerShow on #BBC2. Enjoy!!" Another added: "I hate the @BBC #ChelseaFlowerShow coverage. I don’t care what celebrity is buying what, I want a detailed and leisurely stroll through all of the show gardens, I want to see the planting and understand the relation to hard-landscaping. I want to hear from experts, of all types."A third was not amused by the commercial aspect of the show writing: "I see the @BBC have abandoned any pretence of 'No Sponsorship'. Just switched on Chelsea Flower Show to be told it’s 'Supported By Range Rover'."A fourth viewer was outraged because they felt the coverage had become woke."Watching the Chelsea Flower Show, the BBC have managed to turn it in to a massive woke fest, a disproportionate amount of the guests or presenters are of colour or are disabled. Britain slowly moving on from the woke disease but the BBC is stuck, will that be its demise?"A fifth simply asked: "When did the BBC coverage of Chelsea Flower Show become so silly?"Meanwhile a sixth shared: "I watched the BBC coverage of The Chelsea Flower show for an hour - absolutely underwhelming. Pls go back to a format with actual gardeners rather [than] presenters."The RHS Chelsea Flower Show is one of the highly anticipated fixtures in the gardening calendar, and is regarded one of the world’s greatest celebrations of horticulture and floristry as an art form.Throughout it's week long run this year's event was no exception, and crowds descended on the grounds of the Royal Hospital Chelsea. Many celebrities put in an appearance including Dame Joan Collins, Mary Berry, Trinny Woodall, Queen guitarist Brian May and former footballer David Beckham.
