James Gunn Addresses Wonder Woman Casting Rumors For Superman 2
James Gunn addresses the latest Man of Tomorrow casting rumors ahead of the DC Universe film starting production. Following the Superman ending, the Man of Steel's journey is just getting started in the DCU, with DC Studios already working on his next installment. A user on Threads claimed that Steve Trevor, who is a key player in the Wonder Woman mythology, is being cast for Man of Tomorrow. However, it didn't take long for Gunn to address the casting rumors with the following response:
Steve was last depicted in the DCEU movie timeline, where Chris Pine played him in Wonder Woman and Wonder Woman 1984. While casting isn't happening for Steve, the 2027 entry is reportedly set to feature Brainiac as the main villain, making Man of Tomorrow his cinematic debut. Man of Tomorrow, which will see David Corenswet's Superman and Nicholas Hoult's Lex Luthor joining forces, as Gunn has stated that "it’s a story about Lex Luthor and Superman having to work together to a certain degree against a much, much bigger threat. It’s more complicated than that, but that’s a big part of it. It’s as much a Lex movie as it is a Superman movie." Several DCU players are already confirmed to be returning.
Rachel Brosnahan's Lois Lane and Frank Grillo's Rick Flag Sr. are both part of the Man of Tomorrow movie, and there will likely be even more characters from 2025's Superman showing up in the sequel. Principal photography is reportedly set to start in April 2026, as Gunn wrote the script, and will be directing the highly anticipated film. Even with Steve not showing up in Man of Tomorrow, DC Studios has a new Wonder Woman film in the works, with Supergirl screenwriter Ana Nogueira penning it. However, no director is currently attached, and a release date has yet to be set. While details are unknown about the story for the DCU's Wonder Woman reboot, it's possible that audience members will still see Steve be introduced in that project. Man of Tomorrow opens in theaters on July 9, 2027.
