James Gunn and DC Studios have sparked new speculation following reports that Man of Tomorrow is looking to cast a major male character. With fans already anticipating Wonder Woman’s rumored debut in the Superman sequel, attention has now shifted to who this new addition could be. Speculation is also growing over whether her appearance might signal the arrival of Batman or another iconic DC figure.
DC Studios is reportedly casting a major new male character for Man of Tomorrow, the sequel to Superman: Legacy. Scooper Daniel Richtman stated on November 30, 2025, “There is also a major new male character they are casting for Man of Tomorrow.”
DC Studios has not confirmed the character’s identity. Meanwhile, speculation about Wonder Woman’s appearance in the film has raised the possibility of adding Steve Trevor or another major figure such as Batman.
The rumor follows earlier reports suggesting that Wonder Woman will make her DCU debut in Man of Tomorrow. James Gunn is directing the film and is also searching for an actor to play Brainiac. According to reports, Claes Bang has been mentioned as a possible choice for the role. Gunn has stated that the film “has to do with the dual characters of Lex and Superman at the centre.”
James Gunn explained further: “I think I’m just more interested in getting into the heart of Lex and seeing how he fits into all of this. I think getting to know more of Lex as a human being. We saw a lot about the evil part of Lex. He’s pretty evil. He, as a character, is really interesting. There’s something, despite everything, that is incredibly heroic about Lex.”
The confirmed cast includes David Corenswet as Clark Kent/Superman, Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor, Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane, Isabela Merced as Hawkgirl, and Frank Grillo as Rick Flag Sr. Additional characters rumored to appear include Aaron Pierre as John Stewart/Green Lantern and John Cena as Peacemaker.
James Gunn writes and directs Man of Tomorrow, and DC Studios plans to release it in theaters on July 9, 2027.
