Since Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine in 2022, older tankers with unclear ownership have been used to bypass Western sanctions and maintain oil exports. When these vessels reach the end of their service life, they cannot enter the standard scrap market, raising the question of how they are ultimately disposed of. This video examines the Eagle S, now being dismantled at the port of Aliağa in Turkey. The tanker is suspected of damaging undersea cables in the Gulf of Finland last December.
