Environmental Agency has issued flood alerts and warnings across England (Environmental Agency )Rebecca Whittaker14 November 2025 14:41AA warns of ‘surface water flooding and hazardous driving conditions’The Independent’s Travel Correspondent Simon Calder reports:The AA is warning motorists about the effects of Storm Claudia on the East of England, the Midlands and south east Wales.The Met Office has issued an amber weather warning for rain across a swathe of southern Britain.The motoring organisation said: “Storm Claudia will bring rain that will become persistent and heavy during Friday. 40 to 60mm of rain is widely expected, with some places seeing around 80mm.“These higher accumulations more probable across the East Midlands, and higher ground in Wales and western England. Fast-flowing or deep floodwater is also possible in an amber weather warning, which could pose a danger to life. “We’re urging people to be vigilant and to make preparations for potential flooding now. You can check if you live in an area at risk of flooding on our website and sign up for our free flood warning service,” Alun Attwood, duty tactical manager Wales at Natural Resources Wales said.“We do not provide flood warnings for flooding from surface water, so it’s important for everyone to know their flood risk.“If flooding is forecast in your area, we want to make sure people are doing all they can to keep themselves safe.
